Firefighting activities resumed on Monte Gambarogno

At dawn the operations to quench the forest fire spreading on the Gambarogno mountains near the alpe of Neggia have resumed. « The principal effort of the firemen is concentrated in keeping the flames from spreading beyond the road that leads to Indemini» explained the mayor of Gambarogno Gianluigi Della Santa to CdT upon his return from a helicopter survey along with the commander of the Civic Fire Brigade of Bellinzona Samuele Barenco.

The front of the fire is in fact not very far from the village of Indemini whose residents have been evacuated as a precaution on Sunday evening as well as those of the hamlets of Ri, Pezze and Boè. The majority have found lodging with friends or relatives, while 11 of them had to go to the refuge of the Civil Protection in Quartino. «Evidently they did not leave their homes lightly» underlines Della Santa.
